Go Small or Go Home

Remember the time when people sitting on the subway would read a newspaper or watch the strangers around them?  Not anymore you don’t. If you look around a subway car these days, what you see are tops of heads staring down at little rectangles of light. Are these people crazy? Possessed? Of course not! Why bring a newspaper on the subway when you can pull up the NYTimes app and easily read all articles that interest you?  Why “people watch” when you can read Buzzfeed or Elite Daily articles about the most interesting people you encounter on subways? Mobile and tablet devices have changed the way that people, and customers, interact with their environments and YOUR company.

The subway is not the only place you see this type of technology takeover. As of January 2014, 58% of American adults have a smartphone and the number of American adults with tablets has increased from 3% to 42%. Mobile is only second now to television for the most time on average spent per day with a major media source. So it is no wonder that eMarketers expect mobile to represent 26.4% of the $220 billion US ad market in 2018.

So what does this have to do with you and your company? Company mobile applications and mobile websites are the newest craze with mobile and tablet devices. To keep competitive these days, your company needs to follow suit. Nearly half of consumers say they won’t return to a website if it doesn’t load properly on their mobile device.  That’s nearly half of your potential customers that will be turned away if your website isn’t mobile ready. On top of this, 25% of Americans say they use mobile devices (primarily tablets) only to access the internet. That’s an additional one fourth of your market you could be missing if you’re not mobile ready.

Blah blah blah; you already know this. But what you may not know is 45% of companies still do not have a mobile ready website and only 26% of small business have mobile websites. If you fall into the category that does not have a mobile ready site, heed my advice and take the leap. There has never been a better time to get your company mobile and tablet ready. So forget about going big; Go small!
